Goldsmith’s Company has announced the appointment of Sir Edward Braham as prime warden, succeeding brigadier Ed Butler.
Braham currently serves as chair of M&G and the Charities Aid Foundation. The appointment coincides with the 700th anniversary of the company.
Braham, who joined the organisation in 1989, previously chaired the board of trustees at the Goldsmiths’ Centre between 2016 and 2022.
During his term, Braham will oversee the company’s involvement in the opening of the new London Museum.
The project includes a dedicated Goldsmiths’ Gallery designed to exhibit trade treasures to the public.
Braham received a knighthood in 2025 for services to corporate law and business. He also holds a non-executive position on the board of HM Treasury and serves as a commissioner on the Global Commission of Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking.
Braham said: “We have a remarkable story. This anniversary gives us the chance to share it properly. That story is built around its values: trust and integrity, craftsmanship and skill, care and quality, and belonging and fellowship.
“In an organisation like ours, it is essential that members are seen to engage in the Company’s philanthropic work. The Chair does many things, but I would say at the heart, you’re trying to help everyone fulfil their potential.”
