Goldsmiths’ Centre to verify new Astrid and Miyu certification

The Goldsmiths’ Centre has announced that it will externally verify Astrid and Miyu’s new Jewellery Foundation Certification, establishing a standardised training pathway for permanent jewellery and internal jeweller roles.

Under the partnership, the Goldsmiths’ Centre will oversee assessment decisions and provide guidance on best practice for the Jewellery Academy.

This external verification is intended to provide independent oversight of training standards within the commercial retail environment.

The programme was developed following internal demand from store teams to formalise the technical skills required for permanent jewellery services.

For Astrid and Miyu, the certification creates a structured career progression route, which is expected to support staff retention and ensure consistent workmanship across its retail locations.

The Goldsmiths’ Centre, an educational charity, acts as a bridge between formal education and industry practice.

By moving toward self-certified courses with industry endorsement, the centre aims to address specific skills gaps within the UK jewellery and silversmithing sectors.

This collaborative model combines retail commercial goals with established craftsmanship standards.

The certification covers the technical requirements of the “A&M way” of jewellery handling while connecting trainees to the wider professional craft community.

As the sector faces increasing global competition and technological shifts, such partnerships are positioned as critical infrastructure for workforce resilience.

Sarah Jane O’Hare, head of people growth at Astrid and Miyu, said: “The Jewellery Foundation Certification is the first programme within the academy, created for our people to learn and grow. We wanted to formalise our craft and set a standard for training.

“The certification creates a pathway for our people to learn the skills behind permanent jewellery and qualify for roles within the business. We wanted the certification to have credibility, so partnering with the Goldsmiths’ Centre was a choice. Working with them ensures our certification meets standards and gives trainees confidence.”
