Gem-A online course receives NAJ endorsement

The Gemmological Association of Great Britain (Gem-A) has received NAJ Endorsed status for its entry-level GemINTRO course.

The endorsement acts as a mark of quality for professional development within the jewellery and silverware trades. 

To secure the status, the course underwent a review of its content, learning outcomes, and delivery methods by the National Association of Jewellers (NAJ).

Gem-A is offering a 10% discount on the course until 31 May 2026 to mark the announcement. The online-only qualification is designed for retail staff, auctioneers, and designers who are new to the industry.

The self-guided platform consists of 11 lessons and 30 videos, requiring approximately 30 hours of independent study. The syllabus covers 32 gem materials and provides an overview of gemmological principles, treatments, and synthetics.

Participants who complete the course receive a fully accredited Ofqual Level 2 award. The programme was launched in 2022 to complement the association’s existing diploma portfolio.

Cath Hill, chief executive of Gem-A, said: “GemINTRO is an important first step for many professionals who are new to gemmology. It is built on scientific knowledge to counteract online misinformation and nurture an interest in gemmology that goes beyond the surface, to the heart of the field. 

“NAJ’s endorsement of GemINTRO is a significant step in supporting education across the jewellery industry. It allows us to reach a wider audience, equipping both professionals and enthusiasts with essential knowledge they can rely on.”
