UK Protection launches transit service to tackle jeweller underinsurance

Security provider UK Protection has launched a high-value goods transport service aimed at addressing underinsurance risks in the jewellery sector.

The UK jewellery market is expected to see a significant jump from £4.2bn in 2025 to £9.95bn by 2033, involving increasingly valuable assets. As shipments become more valuable, inadequate insurance could leave businesses across the sector facing major financial losses.

The fleet comprises custom-built, unmarked B4-rated armoured vans designed to withstand pistol-calibre ballistic threats. Security personnel are accompanied by escort vehicles, with a focus on protection and discretion.

Andy Fairbanks, former police officer and group chief executive of UK Protection, said: “Too often security vans are underinsured, under-protected and driven by staff with little understanding of how organised criminals operate. Vans may have security glass, but few are bullet-proofed and their drivers know it. This means that their first line of defence is weak and flawed.

“As criminal intelligence networks become more sophisticated – and as the market for high-value goods continues to grow in the UK – discreet, professional and fully accountable transport is no longer a premium preference. It is a risk management requirement.”
